U22 Indonesia to face U22 Vietnam in SEA Games 30 final

Two-time gold medalist U22 Indonesia will play a Vietnam side that is chasing their first gold in SEA Games – the Southeast Asian Games event – in next Tuesday’s final.

But Indonesia were given a big scare by a Myanmar side after both two teams were tied 2-2 in normal time. After the first half without any score, the goals rained in the second half when Evan Dimas struck the opening the goal in the 58th minute and then the Young Garudas doubled their goal through Egy Maulana in the 71st minute.

Then Velizar Popov’s side showed an incredible comeback and were back on level pegging within a space of just 2 minutes. Before Win Naing Tun sent the match into the 80th minute of the extra time, Aung Kaung Mann halved the deficit in just a minute earlier.

Indra Sjafri’s team managed to recover from that knock as Osvaldo Hay (102′) and Dimas (113′) scored the important goals in order to secure a 4-2 win that sent Myanmar packing out of the competition.

In the other semi-final played on Saturday afternoon, Vietnam confirmed their superiority over Cambodia with a comprehensive 4-0 win. Cambodia boys who had advanced to the semi-final at the expense of Malaysia, found the Golden Dragons too hot for them to handle.

Nguyen Tien Linh opened the win in the 20th minute before it turned into a Ha Duc Chinh show when the latter served up a hattrick so much to the delight of their Coach Park Hang-seo. This is the first time Vietnam has reached the gold medal match since the 2009 competition when they lost to Malaysia in the final.

Vietnam and Indonesia had already met each other once in the competition as both the two teams came from Group B with Vietnam’s winning that first encounter 2-1.
